The Unscrambler®

 

The Unscrambler® is a software package for multivariate data analysis and experimental design, much used for chemometrics and process analysis within food & drink industry, chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, and process industry, research and development. A software package tailor-made for modeling, prediction and classification of multivariable data sets, and includes experimental design.  

The program holds a top position in its niche and is used by about 900 companies and organizations world wide.  

The Unscrambler® was originally developed by Dr. Harald Martens and The Norwegian Food Research Institute. Camo has commercialized it, developed the user interface, graphics, documentation and support.  

What The Unscrambler® can do for you

Exploratory Data Analysis 
Discover sample patterns, hidden phenomena, and variable relationships in your data that visual inspection ot traditional statistical methods cnnot reveal. The method used for this is PCA, but you also have traditional statistical methods available.  

Regression 
In many cases you want to relate the hidden phenomena discovered in your data to specific responses, properties, or maybe quality parameters of your "system". This leads to a so-called calibration or regression model. The available regression methods are MLR, PCR, PLS1, and PLS2.  

Prediction 
Once you have related the hidden phenomena to your chosen responses, you can actually use the calibration model to predict (estimate) the future responses of new samples.  

SIMCA Classification 
Instead of relating hidden phenomena to responses or properties, you can also use them to identify groups or classes of samples with similar hidden phenomena.  

Experimental Design 
It is important to get representative data for the analysis. Experimental design makes sure the samples contain information. There are a number of screening and optimization designs available. Analysis of the designs are done using ANOVA and Response surface analysis. It is also possible to analyse experimental designs using the methods above. 

 

The Unscrambler® Overview

The Unscrambler® is a powerful software package which is divided in two parts. The Editor is a spreadsheet-like data table where data are displayed numerically and allows transformations. The Viewer lets you have a graphical look at your data and results.  

The Editor

The Editor is where you work on your data numerically. You can transform the data, eg. take the logarithm, smooth, differentiate, etc. The Editor is also the place you make your analyses from.  

The only practical limit for your data table size is the memory and hard disk in your PC.

Category variables describing your data sets can be used for easier interpretation, selection of subsets, and much more.  

When you have made an analysis, you are automatically taken into the Viewer to look at your results.  

The Viewer

The Viewer displays the most important results from each analysis. You can have 4 subviews open at the same time for easy analysis.

You can look at all kinds of data in the Viewer. Mark variables or samples in the Editor and press the appropriate plot button to launch the plot in the Viewer.  

When looking at modeling results, you have an automatic link between the Viewer and the Editor. Marking a sample in the Viewer highlights the same sample in the Editor.

Smart default and context saving for fast, efficient analyses The Unscrambler® has been tailored to keep user inputs to a minimum, streamlining operation and cutting out the long-winded "click-drag, click-drag" sequences found in other programs. Smart defaults speed up your selections, while the program remembers any other choices you make to optimize your work.  

Easy interpretation Interpreting results is the key to accurate analysis. The Unscrambler® offers you a wide range of predefined model plots and combined plots to make interpretations easy. Various error measures, outlier plots and other built-in diagnostics assure the quality of your models.  

It knows what you want! The Unscrambler®'s smart default and context saving features makes your work truly fast, efficient, and -above all - easy. Change an item in one window and the corresponding changes automatically take place in all other windows showing related information - graphs, tables, etc. All our experience from many years in practical data analysis has been built into The Unscrambler®, giving it "intelligence", so that it seems as if the program knows exactly what you want to do! Of course you can easily override the defaults to choose a different option, with the minimum of effort.
