- Descriptive Statistics : Describe, categorical variables, continuous variables, frequency tables, contingency tables, tests
- Introduction to graphical analysis using Stata
- Organizing and handling economic data : Merge, append, reshape
- Anova
- Econometrics using Stata : Ordinary least squares, specification tests, tests on the parameters, comparing models, presenting results
- The basics of Stata programming : Macros and loops
- Introduction to epidemiological simple commands : Odds ratios, risk rate, incidence rate

Objective :


This course is designed to introduce to the basics of Stata. It will focus on commands that everyone should know to organize their own work. Specific topics include data-reporting, data-management, formatting, graphics, epidemiologic tables, regression models. By the end of this two-days course, attendees will be capable of using Stata proficiently.

Day 1 : Introduction to Stata : A Statistical Package for Epidemiologists
  • Introduction : Open and describe the dataset, summary statistics, table of counts and summary statistics, graph the distribution of a variable.
  • Managing Datasets : Generate, replace and recoding variables; categorize continuous variables, importing and exporting datasets, merging and appending datsets; Two-way graphs.
  • Introduction to Statistical Bivariate Analysis : Confidence interval for means, comparisons of two means, simple correlation.
Day 2 : More specific Statistical Analysis in Epidemiology
  • Specific Statistical Tables in Epidemiology : 2 by 2 tables for epidemiologists for differents study designs; Interpretation of measures of association; Evaluate the role of confounding affects; Assess effect modification (statistical interaction)
  • Regression Models for Epidemiologists : Linear regression, specification and most frequently used tests; Logistic regression; Introduction to the basics of survival analysis
