Optimization of formulation using Design-Expert

Introduction to experimental design

Duration

1 day (On Site)

Level

Beginner

Prerequisite

None
Topics covered

Basic concepts of experimental design
Full factorial designs
Interactions
Partial factorials
Aliases
General factorials
Response surfaces
Experimental plans for mixtures

Objective

Provide an overview of experimental design and introduce software tools used for it. The course is aimed at anyone from scientists and engineers to managers. This course is not meant to take the place of a longer course in using the software.

Experimental planning with Design-Expert

Duration

3 days (On Site)

Level

First course on using Design Expert

Prerequisite

Basic knowledge of mathematics. Basic knowledge of statistics, such as provided in the Introduction to statistics for technical professionals course

Topics covered

How to plan a experimental programme
Complete and partial factorial designs
Interpretation of analysis of variance
When and how to use transformations
Augmenting a partial factorial to obtain more information
Screening designs and designs for testing robustness
Introduction to designs for response surfaces and for mixtures

Objective

Learn to use Design Expert and its powerful techniques for experimental design in order to get the greatest amount of useful information while limiting the number of experiments. The course does not cover in depth the use of Design Expert for response surface and mixture designs.

Optimization of formulation using Design-Expert

Duration

3 days (On Site)

Level

Intermediate

Prerequisite

Familiarity with analysis of variance (for example, our first course on Design of Experiments with Design-Expert)

Topics covered

Setting up simplex designs
Evaluating and augmenting an experimental plan
Choosing an appropriate model for a mixture
Creating ternary diagrammes (contour maps, 3D)
Dealing with constraints
Using pseudo-components
Optimizing formulations
Screening mixture components
Combining composition variables with other variables

Objective

Learn to use Design-Expert to choose an experimental plan, model mixture properties, and optimize these properties
